Nestled in nearly 500,000 square feet of the new Barbara & Bill Richardson Pavilion, UNM Children's Hospital cares for nearly 60,000 children, over half of whom live outside of the Albuquerque area. Our range of care extends from acute illness and trauma to chronic disease and disability, and draws additional expertise from UNM's School of Medicine, Colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy, and UNM Cancer Center.
Pete's Playground is an outdoor playground designed for hospitalized children. The playground provides the opportunity for hospitalized children to do the things they would normally do if not interrupted by a serious illness or injury. The playground is dedicated to the memory of Peter Blueher, an inpatient at the hospital for over three years until his death in 1989. The project was funded by donations from private individuals and companies throughout the state. The playroom promotes normalcy, by providing age appropriate activities. Play makes the health care experience less intimidating and more comfortable. In the Child Life playroom patients can do art projects, read, do medical play, open-ended play, and cooking activities. Toys are available for all age groups: infants, toddlers, school-age, and adolescents. The playroom averages 600+ encounters with patients each month

How did Children's Miracle Network get started?
Children’s Miracle Network began as a small, televised fund raiser in a small studio in 1983. Marie Osmond and John Schneider co-founded the effort along with a small-dedicated team of 20 children’s hospitals, 20 television stations, six sponsors and a handful of national staff.
Today, Children’s Miracle Network is comprised of 170 affiliated hospitals, 107 television partners, 270 radio partners and 75 national corporate sponsors.
